Why Should I Engage in Local Politics?

About This Episode

Voting is often seen as a “once every 4 years” activity that Americans should participate in. However, with only 55% of eligible American voters actually participating in 2016’s election, there has been a massive push for voter turnout in this upcoming election. Alongside this push is informing Americans of the importance of not just voting for your candidate of choice in the national election, but also the importance of voting in your local elections.

Tune in to The Brew as Val and Luis speak with Riverside City Council Member Andy Melendrez about the importance of voting in your local elections, as well as investing in local arts programs.

Topics discussed in this episode include:
1. What urged Andy Melendrez to run for Mayor
2. The Importance of Voting
3. Supporting local artists and creatives
4. Investing in your personal values
5. Staying and working within Riverside
